Power Experiment Using Cat Comm Adapter III

Nige and I have been discussing the possibility of providing the CA3 with its own power source to speed up the reconnection process to the ECM. Here are some insights:

Power Consumption: The CA3 draws between 140-170mA at 14V, regardless of whether it's connected to the ECM.

Connection Speed: Will the CA3 reconnect faster if it maintains power? It varies. Power cycling and disconnecting the ECM from the CA3 can restore the connection more quickly. Even when the ECM is disconnected via a software switch in the ET, it still takes some time to reconnect.

Battery Considerations: A standard 9V battery has a capacity of about 500mAh, and using two in series gives you 1000mAh. Given the 12V requirement for the Cat Comm Adapter 3, I would expect a runtime of around 2-3 hours, assuming the battery can handle the inrush current, which I can't measure at the moment.

Creating a makeshift battery pack will require some 15-pin D-Sub connectors and some soldering, so I’ll give that a try when I have the time. This setup could be useful in specific situations.
