What’s the difference between VAG-COM and an OBD-II Scan-Tool?

1.Will there be a Mac or Linux version?

There will be no "native” Mac or Linux versions. The time and effort required to "port” VAG-COM to these platforms would never be worthwhile. One person has gotten VAG-COM running under Linux using WINE — click here for details. Another person has managed to get VAG-COM working on a MAC with Virtual PC – click here. Neither of those examples are supported by Ross-Tech.

2.Will there be a Windows-CE/PocketPC/WindowsMobile or Palm-OS version?

Possibly at some point in the future, but we don’t have a timetable yet. We conducted a poll of current and potential VAG-COM users about where we should concentrate development efforts. The results:

(3)9 % Porting VAG-COM to Palm

Some of our customers use VAG 18.2 on a tablet PC such as a Fujitsu Stylistic or on an ultra-portable PC such as a Toshiba Libretto. These can be purchased inexpensively on auction sites. These REAL PC’s work wonderfully and have very small form factors (the Libretto is about the size of a VHS video cassette).

What’s the difference between VAG-COM and an OBD-II Scan-Tool?

OBD-II is a government mandated diagnostic protocol that is primarily aimed at diagnosing emissions-related problems. An OBD-II scan tool will work in many different brands of cars. VAG-COM uses VW’s proprietary diagnostic protocol and will only work in VW/Audi vehicles. Although you can use an OBD-II Scan Tool in an OBD-II compliant (1996 or newer) VW or Audi, an OBD-II Scan Tool can only talk to the engine, not the numerous other "intelligent” systems in the car. Want to reprogram your central locks or your Radio? Diagnose a problem with your ABS, Airbags, or Automatic Transmission? Re-align your Immobilizer after swapping ECU’s? Reset your Service Reminder Indicators? Communicate with a pre-1996 model (not OBD-II compliant) car? An OBD-II Scan-Tool can’t do any of these things. How to slove the problem for GM MDI “no communication with the vehicle” and Solutions About GM MDI Scan tool for some problems

Tech2Win is a Windows application which can be loaded onto a service PC or laptop via TIS2Web. It provides much convenience to the operation of GM MDI diagnostic scanner. But improper operation may leads to system errors. Here provides the MDI Tech2Win no communication error and solution.

 

Problem:
After install Tech2Win software application, connect the GM MDI interface with Opel Zafira-B 2008 to reset ABS light. The software program was allowed to access to Chassis control module, but soon the Tech2Win system display error message: "no communication with the vehicle”.

Possible reason:
The right bottom (0) icon indicates that MDI Tech2Win software has not need well installed and activated.

Solution:
Re-install and activate the GM MDI Scan Tool GlobalTIS MDI Tech2Win GDS2 software again.
If there is (1) icon displayed on the right bottom of the Tech2Win program, the software has been successfully installed and there is good communication between vehicle and GM MDI scan tool.

Sometimes when you use theGM MDI, you will meet some problems and here we will share the reasons and the solutions of those problems. In many conditions, when there occurs some troubles when you are using the MDI, you should first reboot the MDI software and do the Self Test.

  1. "MDI DOES NOT PASS SELF TEST”

If you meet this problem, it indicates that there is an internal problem in the MDI, you need to connect the MDI to a PC by using the USB and do the software recovery procedure.

  1. "MDI ERROR LED LIGHTS AFTER POWER ON”

This condition indicates that during power on, there has detected a problem. And the solution is to power down the MDI and verify that it has the same problem after you power up again, then connect the MDI to a PC by using the USB and do the software recovery process.

  1. "MDI FAILS TO POWER UP”

Normally speaking, Once the external power is applied,the MDI should power up. If the MDI does not turn on, the first thing you need to do is to check the wall plug or power cable connections. Then try to supply power to the MDI from the two different power sources, the vehicle DLC connector and the AC 12-volt Adapter.

To solve this problem, you need to check and make sure that the cables are all attached to the MDI securely and the connector pins are all clean. If you are going to connect to the vehicle DLC connector, try to power from the AC 12-volt Adapter. And if you are going to connect to the AC 12-volt Adapter, you should try to power from the vehicle DLC connector.

  1. "MDI TURNS OFF IMMEDIATELY WHEN DISCONNECTED FROM THE VEHICLE”

Actually, after it is disconnected form the vehicle, the MDI should stay on for a factory set time unless you press the power button. If theAuto diagnostic tool MDI turns off immediately once you disconnected it from the vehicle, you should power up the MDI and verify that it has the same problem when the power is removed, then replace the batteries and make sure they are properly installed. After these operation, if it still fails to be off correctly, your MDI may be damaged.

First Time Using Autel MaxiSys MS906

Like a kid in a candy store, I had to test it out. Being that the Autel MS906 is able to do everything the dealer-specific scanners can, I decided to check out a customer’s engine light on their Ford Escape.

Like any professional grade scan tool, you have to connect the cable just like a computer cable with those little screws before you can use it. But once it was connected, I plugged the scan tool in.

Nothing happened!!

Unlike most OBD2 scan tools, you have to power up the MS906 on your own.

I pressed the button and the screen lit up. It was only a few seconds until the main screen displayed. And it really didn’t take long at all to figure out how to check the code.

I scrolled through to the Ford button, pressed it, and pressed the "EOBD” or engine light icon. It literally walks you through the process to read the codes. And I found out the Escape needed an upstream oxygen sensor.

Out of curiosity, while I was checking the scanner out, I looked at the MaxiFix tab and was astonished to see that there was diagnostic and repair information for virtually every make and model out there.

Just because I was curious, I looked up the upstream oxygen sensor procedure for my customer’s Ford Escape, and it looks to be correct.

Definitely, this information will come in handy.

More Tool Than I Expected

It’s both a good thing and a bad thing, but there is way more to the Autel MS906 thank I expected.

While there are intuitive functions, you can miss out on so much if you don’t spend a couple of hours reading over the manual. That in itself is a problem – the owner’s manual is 104 pages long!

I don’t know a single tech that’s going to take the time to learn the tool that well.

You can use it as a shop manager as well. But that’s something every shop owner already has, and one you won’t be switching just because you got a new scan tool.

Another thing is your unlikely to use most of the adapters that come with it in the case. It’s just needless. They should probably sell those separately

Saab 9-3SS Walkthrough

STEP 1

Buyengine diagnostic tool GM Tech2 scan tool. Make sure you get Saab 148 card.

STEP 2

Get out an old laptop or buy one. It needs Windows XP and a serial port. I run a Dell D630. You can try USB to serial adapters or newer versions of Windows but do you want to mess around with getting old software to run on new computers?

STEP 3

Download cracked TIS2000 online install it on the laptop.

THERE ARE FILES THAT NEED TO BE MOVED. VIEW THE README.txt AND MOVE THEM.

STEP 4

The PCMCIA card comes preinstalled in the GM Tech 2. It also comes with a bunch of adapters. You find the one that hooks under the dash. Connect that to the Candi module (that comes with the TEch2) and connect it under the dash. The candi module connects to the tech2. Turn on the tech 2 (the obd2 powers it, no need for wall or cigarette lighter power) and you can read DTCs and stuff.

STEP 5

Now if you want to make changes (such as comfort close or whatever you want to do) there is a menu item on the tech2 that says "Common Adjustments”. Go in there and pick the one you want. Hit ok and then the Tech2 will say it needs security access and tells you what to do to get it (which is basically disconnect the tech2….yes it powers down…and hook up the tech 2 via ethernet cable that is supplied that hooks into a ethernet/serial connector that is also supplied that you hook into the laptop.) Connect the AC adapter to the wall to power the Tech2. You fire up the TIS2000 software on the laptop and on the main screen it says "Get Security Access”. Click on that and it communicates with the Tech2. Click through a few screens and a minute later and it says Level 1 access granted. You unhook the tech2 from the laptop and head back to the car and go back in and change things to your hearts content. Where before it would ask you to get security access you don’t need to anymore.

To make things even easier instead of disconnecting the Tech2 Scan Tool from the car and having to power it while it communicates with the laptop (the AC adapters are flaky apparently) I just run an extension cord out to my car for the laptop. Disconnect the tech2 from the car when it prompts you to, reconnect it to the obd2 for power, and also to the laptops serial port. Do everything all connected up. It gets a bit crowded in there with a laptop and tech2 and cables, but they can just sit on the passenger seat.

Tips For Vehicle Air Conditioning

OK, so the reliable presence of cold air in your car is probably your last concern during this time of year. However, once winter’s all done with, a broken air conditioner is sure to make for one depressing discovery. Rather than ready yourself for a potential repair, it’s much better to employ one of the many methods of keeping your vehicle air conditioning in its best condition. We’ve listed some of these cool care tips below, ranging from those you can take care of yourself to others that can be left to the autel scan tool.

General practice recommends that, no more than once a week, you fire up your car’s air conditioner for a couple of minutes regardless of the corresponding temperature outside. The benefit of this is it keeps all the valves and pumps that make up the system in good, lubricated fashion and maintains the gas pressure – all for very little effort. Even now, in the midst of winter, using your air con will remove humidity from your vehicle’s cabin, and is also a handy tool for removing fog from your windshield when visibility is reduced.

What to check on during your Check-up

During a vehicle servicing, there’s a massive list of items for the mechanic to check off of their list. Surprisingly though, the air conditioner isn’t usually one of them. Whether you’re expecting to drive out somewhere notably warm this summer, or just want to keep a cool head about your vehicle air conditioning, make sure you ask to have the refrigerant level checked, and the cooling system refreshed with gas and lubricant. Your air conditioning should really go through its own, full on check-up every 2 years, so make sure you get the timing right so you don’t end up with a less than optimal blast of cool air when the roads are scorching hot.

Getting the Most out of your Air Conditioner

Even if your car’s cooling system is fully checked out and operating at its best, there’s a lot to be said for the way you ultimately employ your air conditioning beyond just ‘switching it on’. Whilst it’s often easier said than done, always try and find a shaded spot when you want to have the AC running whilst parked; this will help lessen the cooler’s work and ensure your vehicle isn’t a sauna when its time to head off (if there’s no shade, windshield shades are a good alternative). Likewise, having the windows down just a tad will leave less heat within your car, allowing your autel maxisys elite to do its job faster and with less strain.

When it actually comes to firing up the system, it’s tempting to crank it up to its highest setting to circulate the air as much as possible, but to keep your AC in working order it’s much more preferable that you start in low and gradually build it up (some automatic systems will do this for you). When you’re pretty close to your destination, switch off the air conditioner before the engine, leaving the fan running in order to avoid getting that condensation puddle that sometimes forms underneath your auto key programmer.

Step to install BMW ISTA+ with all programming data

I have read that BMW will stop support F and G series from Ista P.
Is there somewhere a good tutorial how to install the new ISTA+ with all programming data included.
There are a lot of different software SPD delta, etc etc. How to install and which files to use

Here you go…
First you need ICOM to get ISTA+ programming to work. Yes, you can have tested ISTA+ download from cardiagtool.co.uk or use the psdzdata FULL from @Shawn which is an easier route for *you* than using the sdp deltas and ISTA Launcher Console.

Instructions:

1- rename C:\Rheingold\PSdZ\data\psdzdata to psdzdata.orig

2- extract psdzdata FULL in C:\Rheingold\PSdZ\data, browse to C:\Rheingold\PSdZ\data\psdzdata\swe\swfl and check that there is lots of files…

3- you need to enter those two registry entries for x64 OS:

Here are two different entries to point to psdz.

is all that is included in Diagnosis-only ISTA+

is what is needed for programming Fxx/Ixx/Gxx-series with BMW ICOM A2(ie SDP). But, you could change to whatever you want in registry.

Tech 2 Connection to Techline Terminal

At times the Tech 2 will need to be connected to a terminal. Reasons for connection to a terminal include the following:

* Transfer of vehicle data (calibration information, "snapshot,” etc.) from the Tech 2 to the terminal
* Transfer of vehicle calibration data from the terminal to the Tech 2
* Transfer of data (software update, etc.) from the terminal to the Tech 2

Before connecting automotive diagnostic equipment Tech 2 to the terminal, the following steps should be taken:
* Make sure the RS-232 cable (P/N 3000110) is attached to the Tech 2 RS-232 port located on the left
side of the Tech 2.

* Make sure the appropriate power supply is connected to the DLC cable power jack connector, or to the
power jack connector at the bottom of the Tech 2 from OBD2TOOL.

* Make sure the PCMCIA card is fully inserted into the upper slot at the top of the Tech 2.

The Chinese sell genuine (OEM) and original Tango. The OEM one is from FLY and it is cheaper with poorer quality.

The original Tango is from scorpio. At that price it won’t be a clone.

Tango from fly: waste time and money

don’t waste time and money for Tango from fly… Last week I bought original Tango from scorpio so I can compare and every keys and dump which China Tango can NOT program the original Tango did it straight away without any problem!!!

Buy clone Tango from FLY = Buy Disappointment

Everything from Fly is rubbish. There has been enough posted about them and their products on this and other forums to make an informed choice and avoid their products.

Scorpio have a Chinese distributor who supplies all Chinese sellers.
It is a 100% original tool which you must register with Scorpio for updates and support.
I have one and it is a great tool. I bought mine from OBD2TOOL and I am very happy with it.

Original Tango from China: good tool;

The Chinese sell genuine and Auto Key Programmer original Tango. It is not a clone. I bought one. I am not an idiot. I saved a little money. I get one to one support from Scorpio, even on a Sunday morning. It is a very good tool. 100% original. Best tool I ever got from China.

In conclusion:

To be a locksmith:

go for the Genuine but you have to invest more than a Tango

For fun:

you can try with the Clone; probably it is ok for a DIYer, if you have the luck

My advice is:

don’t buy any tango from Fly, you never know what will happen to you

GM Tech 2 Error: GM TECH 2 CANdi module interface not detected(solved)

Problem:

GM Tech2 scanner error: Tech 2 Scan Tool CANdi module interface not detected.

Solution:

1.Together with the car ignition off, connect the gm tech two and gm tech 2 CANdi module(which now is a single extended cable).

2.Power up the Tech2 You may get 12V in the DLC (now it took me a half hour to find out the "DLC signifies "Data Hyperlink Connector” and is what we also call the Obd2 scan tool, so be ready to be stumped by TLA’s (Three Letter Acronyms).

3.At the principal menu press F3-tool solutions.

4.In the tool alternatives screen pick F9, CANdi Diagnostics.

5.You will find two tests on the subsequent screen, run them each. When you get pass on each, that you are excellent to go. The CANdi should really talk to your 2004 vehicle.
